Arne Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's expected for doubts to be raised about his future after another convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in twelve matches, representing the club's poorest run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got significant support from above,” Slot stated.
“It would be great to change things and get a victory obviously but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “Through standard discussions I perceive the trust. But I've not talked to them since this match so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Issues and Player Response
The manager expressed regret over familiar weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European loss, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones remarked.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a spell like this with outcomes like these.”
Jones concluded, “But we still have the crest on our shirts. And until that badge is removed, we will always compete.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad return to the top, show everyone again what this club is about and why people call it the top club in the world.”
