Line of Duty Announced for Seventh Season on the British Broadcaster
The beloved crime series Line of Duty is officially returning for its 7th season, announced by the BBC.
A brand new six-part season written by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland in the coming months, according to the network.
Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the return, saying she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together soon."
The previous series concluded in 2021 with a finale that attracted more than 17 million audience members. Rumors about a new season have been widespread for some time, but confirmation only arrived recently.
New Challenges for AC-12
Series seven will open with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to production details.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings continue working to tackle misconduct within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, these officers are assigned their "most sensitive case to date."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer known for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.
However, his case could be a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still active in the shadows, the teaser suggested.
In a statement, the creator said: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had countless followers watch the developments of AC-12 over multiple series and we are thrilled to be returning for a seventh installment."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while the series was off air, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor called being part of the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the show's success but the people I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he said.
Vicky McClure stated: "It goes without saying I'm very happy the show is back! Can't wait to work with Jed, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "While anticipating the unit days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together next year."
"Pleased with the news and looking forward to those mercurial twists and turns."
Series Legacy
Line of Duty launched in the early 2010s and became a highly successful television series of the past ten years, featuring guest stars such as Lennie James.
The BBC haven't revealed exactly the new season will premiere.
The finale of season six brought the long-running storyline about the search for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a conclusion, and the creative team said at the time there were no plans for further series.
Nevertheless, the corporation confirmed on this week that a seventh series is now in development.
