New Year's Partygoers Told to Dress Warmly with Snow Predicted Across the UK
Forecasters are reporting a chilly beginning to the new year, with snowfall likely throughout a lot of the UK. Those celebrating have been told to wrap up as near-freezing temperatures are predicted for New Year's Eve.
Hogmanay Plans Proceed Despite Alerts
The Scottish capital's famous Hogmanay events are planned to take place, a contrast to last year's calling-off. This is in spite of advisories for snow over northern Scotland.
"A chilly New Year's Eve night for those out celebrating, so warmer clothes will be needed," noted the national forecaster.
Celebrations Under Open but Chilly Skies
Elsewhere in the UK, the weather is likely to be ideal for fireworks displays, with no rain and good visibility. The mercury are forecast to be cold, so extra layers a necessity, as per forecasters.
Further north, conditions will be cloudier, but this is not expected to affect visibility for seeing fireworks. "We are not looking at low cloud, mist or murk, so you ought to be able to see fireworks, just not stars," commented one forecaster.
Widespread Weather Alerts for New Year's Day
As we enter Friday, snow alerts have been issued across Northern Ireland and from Wales, across parts of the north-west, the West Midlands and reaching London and the majority of the south-east of England.

Readings Expected to Plummet Even More
As 2026 begins, it will be "chilly no matter where you are," commented forecaster Simon Partridge. The weather are expected to plummet as wintry showers and strong winds are expected to batter the north of the country.
Approximately 10cm of snow could accumulate to have accumulated in some areas by Friday morning, with up to 30cm on the highest roads and hills.
Public Health Alerts Released
At the same time, amber-level health advisories have been activated for the north-east and north-west of England. These are expected to remain in place until noon on 5 January, with readings forecast to fall to between 3C and 5C.
