This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.

It might not have been at the same level as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.

“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”

This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The pig, donated by a local firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people shouting “six seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently made “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A New Life

This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the festive period,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It embodies the essence of Miami: happy, varied, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Annually, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
